Counselling

At Counselling Highland, we offer confidential and professional counselling services to individuals and couples. Our trained counsellors provide support for a range of relationship challenges, helping you work towards positive outcomes. Services are available in-person, online, and by telephone to ensure accessibility across the Highland region.

Our qualified counsellors work with individuals as well as couples across a wide range of difficulties – from difficult communication to dealing with affairs, from sexual problems to dealing with the end of a relationship. By talking to a counsellor you work together to aim to achieve a better understanding of your relationship and the outcome you wish to achieve whether it is to stay together, separate or divorce.

Counselling sessions are normally held weekly at the same time and with the same counsellor. The sessions last 50 minutes. During the initial session there is a period of information gathering and agreeing a contract between yourselves and the counsellor. All our relationship counsellors are also trained to help explore sexual difficulties.

Counselling Highland is part of a national network of 22 local services offering a confidential counselling service throughout Highland region. We are affiliated to Relationships Scotland who provide training and development for our counsellors and quality assurance to our organisation.

Counselling Highland is a registered charity governed by a Board of Directors who are all volunteers and managed by a small team of employees and volunteers. Relationship Counsellors are trained to diploma level and work to professional standards. They receive regular supervision and continuing professional development and go through an annual renewal process to demonstrate that they have met the required standards.

Relationship support is vital for everyone in society. Whether married, single, living together, in civil partnerships, divorced or separated, people’s lives are defined and enriched by their relationships with others. We support the Scottish Government by trying to ensure that through supporting relationships, individuals, couples and families can develop their own solution to the problems they may face in their relationships with others to improve their wellbeing, mental health and happiness.

What is Counselling?

Counselling provides a safe, confidential space where you can discuss relationship concerns, gain insight, and explore solutions with the guidance of a trained professional. We adhere to ethical and professional standards to ensure a high-quality service.

We offer individual and couples counselling at a minimum fee of £30 per session.

You can also choose to donate (top-up) your minimum fee if you can afford to. This would help us greatly in providing our counselling services to those who cannot afford to pay this minimum fee.

There are a limited number of funded or concessionary sessions available funded by others’ kind donations or through our other grant funders or project funders. These sessions are available to those in certain circumstances and an application form is available if you wish to apply.

If you are able to top-up your contribution with a donation, then please consider completing the Gift Aid declaration so that we, as a charity, may claim a further 25% of your donation back from the UK government.
